Uber/Lyft Accidents
Uber/Lyft Accidents
In a motor vehicle accident that occurs in an Uber or Lyft ride, there are two scenarios in which Uber or Lyft automobile insurance would kick in.
1. Driver was logged into the Uber/Lyft application and was waiting for the application to match them with a passenger
Under this scenario, Uber and Lyft would cover, to a certain extent, the at-fault driver who was logged into the application. The driver would be covered $50,000 per person and $100,000 total per accident, with $25,000 property damage coverage. Uber and Lyft would not provide any uninsured or underinsured coverage in this scenario.
2. If the Driver was matched with a passenger(s) or already picked up the passenger(s).
If the Uber or Lyft driver is at fault for a motor vehicle accident, Uber or Lyft would cover the driver up to $1 million in liability coverage. Passengers in the Uber or Lyft vehicle would also be able to file a claim against the Uber or Lyft driver’s insurance.
Additionally, in this scenario, if the Uber or Lyft driver is involved in a motor vehicle accident, and is not at fault, Uber and Lyft’s uninsured/underinsured $1 million automobile coverage would apply.
